Red face Help with Records in Exeter please...

    Hello All

I've been looking into my family history and have had that mad rush of adrenalin and excitement over a 72 hour period searching what I can on the various free and not so free sites on the Web. However, I am now stuck and wonder who can help with where I go next.

I have gone back into the Stonebridge history over 4 generations successfully. I have searched the Scottish records as my GGGGGrandfather appears to have lived there according to the 1841 Census. His name was Henery Stonebridge and he was married to Jane and had several children. I have deduced from his Death Certificate (which is hard to read from the scan) and from the 1851 Census that he was born in Exeter around 1807. It also appears from the death cert that his father was also called Henery! It is here that I am stuck.

How do I find any details (like evidence of birth) on Henery Stonebridge born circa 1807 in Exeter or the father / mother of Henery Stonebridge . I do not know what parish in Exeter and would really appreciate some ideas or suggestions. This may be the end of the line but I really hope not. Many thanks....

You're not saying that you got from now to 1807 in 72 hours are you? If I were you I would pause there and make sure you have a fully authenticated tree - with certificates - stretching from yourself back to Henry Stonebridge.

For Henry b 1807, you need parish registers which presumably means the Devon Record Office at Exeter.

    Hi -

I'm not sure, but I think that the Plymouth & West Devon Record Office may have a copy of all the Devon PRs on microfiche. As you appear to be living in Plymouth, I'd think it would be worthwhile to ask them. Their e-mail address is: pwdro AT plymouth DOT gov DOT uk and their telephone number is 01752 305940.

    Good luck -

    Tim
