New Member Naval Query

Hi
I am new to this forum, I am researching Kearney, Royal and Carr in Cumberland, particularly Whitehaven.
I have a photograph of a Joseph Carr or McAlister. He is wearing an ordinary sailors uniform taken in Whitehaven, the cap bears the initials R C N S, with an anchor between the C & N.
I wonder if anyone can recognises this?

The photograph is of an adult and as far as I know was not an orphan, but you never know
