I am so amazed and so grateful for all of your responses. thank you for your help. OF course, you know you have opened up a can of worms! (In other words, the answers only lead to more questions!)

Wendy: Are the Victorian Electoral Rolls 1901-1936 online?

Are the records starting MOIRA Div'n. 1903 EVANS, Marcus Shepparton Parish... and ending Evans Luke, Lima Sth..Labourer Moira-Swanpool from these electoral rolls?

I have a "Victorian Place Names Abreviations" which I printed off many years ago, but cannot find some names, i.e., Fern Hill and Benalla.

CassieK: I went to the online.justice,vic.gov.au website and find that the price for the CDs is pretty high. Too bad that they did not break them down into smaller areas per CD and charge less.

Are the fantastic indexes taken from these CDs? Every one of these persons, with the exception of the EVANS/WINTER family which I cannot confirm, are mine.

As far as abreviations go, is HUNTLEY really HUNTLY, Victoria? Is Kew really KIEWA, Victoria? What are KIAL and KARR the abreviations of?

Sorry to be such a pain, but I would like to get it all straight.

    As ever

Hi June I'll leave it to the others to respond to most of your questions.

Kew is a suburb of Melbourne - the capital of Victoria. Kiewa is Kiewa Valley which is in the north of the State of Victoria.

Kial is probably an abbreviation of Kialla which is near Shepparton. KARR is probably Karramonus which is also near Shepparton.

    Hi June,
I had to be away for a time, with other things,..Family..
These places in & around Shepparton, & Suburbs closer to Melbourne,ie. Camberwell, Kew were all taken from Electoral Rolls.

the Electoral Rolls are now made available via An*****y. ( for some States in Australia)
If you "Google" these place names, you will get info on where they are & what the region has on offer, along with maps of the area.

    Happy Families

Added to the information already given, according to the Pioneer index
Amos J married Ann CLERK in 1897 reg #3298.

Also, have you tried Googling Tyldon Cemetery. A transcript of the Tyldon Cemetery Register is online and and also contact details of someone who is willing to share several gravestone photos including several of your EVANS.

Hi Tootles: Just came back for a visit and found your post. Thanks for the info. I had Amos's wife down as Annie, but could not find her maiden name.

I am going to google Tyldon cemetery now. thank you very much for the hint.

    Hi All,

The Evans family from the Swanpool, Lima East area(near Benalla, Victoria) didn't come from Sussex, but from Bristol. Came out in 1852 aboard the Theodore.
    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Sherree Evans

No worries June, I only asked about their parents as it could have helped any forum members looking at the death indexes.
    Regards.
    Hugh.
