I am currently researching these Leicester families. I have information to share and would love to chat with anyone with information as well.

Bennett/Preston
Hi..
My great-great grandfather was Thomas Bennett (born 1829). He married Sarah Ann Preston (born May 7, 1836), of Mount Sorrell, Loughborough, Leicestershire.
The date of the marriage, as far as I know so far, was November 17.1851 at New Stranton, Co. Durham.
I have been trying to find, to no avail, the names and birth places of the PARENTS of Sarah Ann Preston.
Can you help??

Hello Indigo!

Have you searched for her at www.familysearch.org? I just took a peek and did see a Sarah Preston born in Mount Sorrell, but she was born 2 years prior to yours. Given that families often lost children young and named the next child the same name as the last one, it's possible that your Sarah Preston is from the same parents as this one was.
Those parents are WALTER PRESTON and SUSAN BLUNT PRESTON. I found a marriage date and place for them as being 29 JUL 1832, of Saleby (Sileby?), Leicester, England.
WALTER PRESTON'S Christening info is as follows:
26 JAN 1802, of Sileby, Leicester, England. His Parents were John & Sarah Preston.
I found a listing for SUSAN BLUNT, but she may not be the right one. Her birth year was approx. 1810 and she was from Syston, Leicester. I have her listed as Susannah Blunt Preston married to a Joseph Gilbert in 1839 in Syston, Leic. Is it possible that Walter Preston died early and she then married Joseph Gilbert?
I'm not sure if they are in fact the ancestors you're searching for, but perhaps this is a good lead? I hope I've been of some help.
Good luck, SandyLast edited by Guest; 11-10-2007 at 7:51 PM.

Hello again!
I just wanted to add that I noticed that my Prestons also have Gilberts and Bennetts amongst them! This is going back a little earlier than we discussed. I will sit down and sort this out later tonight, but I find it funny that I have Prestons, Gilberts and Bennetts in the same line, right after we talked about them today. I just glanced at my tree and there they are, right under my nose.
Short breakdown: I have a WILLIAM ERNEST PRESTON, b. 1851. His mother was HANNAH GILBERT, b. 1820. Her parents were JOHN GILBERT, b. 1788 AND ELIZABETH BENNETT, b. 1792.
WILLIAM ERNEST PRESTON was my great great grandfather. This is not a line I've paid much attention to in the past.
I now wonder if they're related to the ones I told you about earlier and if those particular ancestors are yours as well. I'll work on this more later. Haven't got time now. Hope you are able to find a connection with the info I posted earlier today.
Cheers, Sandy

Very good. This is a family line I've neglected to research much, so I'm glad to hear from you. I may have made a discovery for my own line in the process of helping you.

Bennett/Preston/Gilbert etc
Hi, Sandy,
I thought you might be interested to know that I have been in contact with someone in the Yorkshire area who got in touch with me because of my family relationship to the Prestons.
She is, if I am understanding correctly, a descendent of the Preston/Gilbert line of the family, and tells me that she and I are third cousins once removed.
If you are interested, I can get in touch with her, and ask her permission to give you her email address...???
I feel quite certain that you are researching the same family as she is, and she does have a lot of information.
Can you email me??

If I have the right Harris, his parents were William Harris of Woodhouse Eaves, and Elizabeth Coalcroft of Sileby.
Any connections?

Well, I only have 1 ancestor thus far for Harris and she was born in 1799. This was Millicent Harris, who married my g-g-g-g grandfather, Thomas Preston in 1841. So, while it's not too far fetched that there may be a connection somewhere, I don't think it's direct. I'll update you if I come across anything.
