    Default SOUTHWORTH- NORRIS 1700's

    Hello. I am new here
My ancestor, Henry Southworth (Southard) born c.1745 in the Mawdesley/ Bispham area had parents Henry Southworth(born c.1714) and Jane Norris(C 1714) married in Croston 22/12/1735. I can find the birth registration of a Jane Norris to a father James Norris on 23/1 1714. Unfortunately no mother is given. A Thomas Norris married a Margaret Whitelay 8/12/1712 in the appropriate time frame and did indeed have a daughter, Jane but the Wills for that Norris family do not mention, either Jane or her son Henry Southworth. A Thomas Norris also married an Elizabeth Scarisbrick 8/12/1708 in Croston but I have been unable to find out if they also had a daughter Jane.
Can anybody help me choose a mother for Jane please?

If you go through the baptism records you might find an entry that includes a mother's forename with siblings to this Jane. And you can also see if there were other Norris families being baptized at the same time.

And then one has the possibility that Jane did not originate from Croston, or was baptized elsewhere.

Was there a Norris named as a witness to her marriage?

Have you looked back far enough for a possible marriage of parents? Jane could be on the end of a 25 year child bearing span by her mother.

    Thanks Christine,
I did try to search the baptism records myself but they were very faint. I must have another go. The marriage quoted in Lancashire Parish Clerk on line does not give witness names, so perhaps I should look at the original records. Jane was from Walton so that is a possibility too:
Marriage: 22 Dec 1735 St Michael and All Angels, Croston, Lancashire, England
Henry Southworth - Husbandn. of Walton
Jane Norris - Spinster of Walton
Married by Banns by: Rogr. Greene aforesaid
    Register: Marriages 1729 - 1754, Page 7, Entry 10
    Source: LDS Film 93712
The marriage dates for a Thomas Norris and Margaret Whitelay are 1712 and for Thomas Norris and Elizabeth Scarisbrick 1708. I need to go to Preston to have a better look. Thanks.
