SCHOOL IN PALMER TERRACE ISLINGTON 1841

In about 1840 my great grandfather and his two brothers were sent back to a boarding school from, Calcutta in British India. They are recorded in the 1841 census as being resident in a school in "Palmer Terrace, Islington, London".
Does anyone have information on this school and if any records would still exist?

Alexander Stewart, a Congregationalist minister, had a school at Palmer House, no. 1 Palmer Terrace, Lower Holloway, from 1847, assisted by his two sons. In 1851 he had 26 boys boarding aged 9 to 15 years. The school may have continued until his death in 1874; his sons entered the ministry, one of them, Halley (later knighted), working at Caledonian Road before going into business.

There were hundreds of these private schools that came and went. There won't be any records.

There is a short paragraph on this web page http://www.british-history.ac.uk/rep...px?compid=9063 (three qtrs of the way down the page - Ctrl F "Palmer") which only appears to mention 1847 onwards.
Alexander Stewart and the school and students (including a few from India) can be found on the 1851 census ref HO107; Piece: 1499; Folio: 231; Page: 11

The 1851 Post Office Directory for 1 Palmer Terrace, off the Holloway Road has:
Stewart Rev.Alex & Sons, Academy

There was a Ladies School at number 7 and another Academy at number 17.

There was also another Alexander Stewart Academy in Gt. College Street, Camden Town, just to confuse the issue so make sure you do not forget to add the Rev.

SoG has a useful publication An Index of London Schools and their Records by Cliff Webb; there's no mention of a Palmer Terrace school, unfortunately.
