    Default Orton / Owen

    Hi everyone,

I have been looking into my husband's side and in particular his grandma Violet. I received her birth certificate today which confirmed:

Violet Orton born 21/12/1895 to Henry (joiner, journeyman) and Sarah Ann nee Owen, at Doncaster.

Editted to include: I also found the marriage for Henry Orton & Sarah Ann Owen, 23/03/1884 at Christ Church, Doncaster!

I am having difficulty finding much about them (I don't have access to A*y at the moment).

There are plenty of Orton's born in Doncaster who could be Violet's siblings, but I can't be sure if they belong to this family.

Also, I can't find Henry or Sarah on the free 1881 census on the IGI. I would think that Orton would be quite an unusual name and expected to find Henry quite easily, but he is proving elusive!

So basically, can anyone find Sarah Ann Owen and Henry Orton pre 1901? And siblings for Violet would also be useful! It doesn't help that I am taking a wild guess with their dates of birth, not knowing where in the order of children Violet falls would alter her parent's dob's significantly in either direction.

By the way, I already had Violet's marriage certificate (she married Sydney Stubbs) and at that time she was a domestic servant living in Bradford.

    Thanks in advance guys!

This is great stuff - thanks!

Found Sarah Ann on the IGI but she comes up as Owens, not Owen, baptised at Gringley-on-the hill.

I must get to the library to try to track her down. From the IGI her parents were William and Sarah. She had 2 sisters Emily & Elizabeth but they were baptised together on 01/09/1867 so don't know when they were born.

I had to get out of bed early to take a look at the forums because I was too excited to sleep wondering if there had been any responses, I think I need therapy!

Thank you all for the information, it gives me something to go on.
