    Default Sackvilles coming to light!

    Hello all

Thanks for this information! Three weeks ago all I knew was my great-great grandfather's mother was Jane Sackville and now we are so much further! I am really excited to see this new information: the place and date of the christening of Jane is spot on!
Do you think that Gilbert changed his name from Sackels/Sakels to Sackville when he moved to London?
Where can I see the archives of the Lower Meeting House in Berwick baptism register?

    Thanks to you all
    Glenn

It seems that the Sackvilles are recorded in registers as Sackels or Sackeld.

Here are two from the Belford West Street Presbyterian register which tie in with the information given by sandyman41 -

25 May 1812. George son of John & Agnes Sackeld of Belford Moor, Belford parish. Born 8 May 1812

18 May 1814. John son of John & Agness Sakeld of Belford Moor, Belford parish. Born 8 May 1814.

And some more from Crookham Presbyterian baptism register -

21 March 1808. Isabella daughter of Gil. Saccles of Killin [Kilham]

31 January 1811. John son of Gil. Saccles and his wife Margret MacDougal of Howtel, Kirknewton parish

11 November 1817. Andrew son of John Sacles by his wife Agnes Carr. Born at Monilaws 3 November 1817

    Default SACKELDS/SACKVILLES

That is really great stuff EMJAY. It may not seem like much but I have been searching for several years and any records that appear to refer to these SACK....s in the right place at the right time are a great step forward for me.

I have some more questions for Glenn about Gilbert SACK...
I'll get to them in another post.
But those two burial records I had look like they may be the young sons of Gilbert who did not live long enough to make it to London.

"p.88 #697 George Sackville, of Shaw's lane Berwick, buried 27 Feb. 1817, J. Barnes officiated.

    p.144 #1151 John Sackville, of Shaw's lane Berwick, buried 25 Dec. 1819, J. Barnes officiated. "

    Thanks to all.

    emjay,
I can find Kilham, Howtel, Kirknewton, Crookham, Belford and Belford Moor on the maps, but I wonder where MONILAWS was? I had never heard the word before but googling tells me it is a Scottish surname.
The place-name seems to have disappeared...

I must have passed through or near many of these places several years ago on a leisurely drive from Kelso to Holy Island.

Glad to have found this site and you helpful folks.

If you have found Kilham, you will find Monilaws Hill (now written Moneylaws) directly to the north of Kilham Hill, and the two Moneylaws farms are close by to the north east - East Moneylaws and West Moneylaws. Moneylaws Hill is clearly seen on the drive from Kelso to Holy Island roughly opposite Coldstream on the English side of the Tweed.

Apologies from me - in the post re Belford register I have written James Sackeld instead of John Sackeld and I can't see a way of editing it.

I presume that was post 13?

I have corrected the name (correctly I hope). There is a limited time frame to edit posts unless you are a Moderator.

    Hi Everyone
It has been some time since I was looking for Gilber and Margaret Sackville

It seems that 'they' changed their names slightly when they moved to
    London, England.

Does anyone have any new uptodate information they would care to share?
