I am researching my 2nd g.grandfather George BALL b. about 1794 at Shrivenham, Berks. He m. first a Martha and then Elizabeth. I have only traced him to 1851 census and would like to find out when he died. I believe, if my research is correct [LDS IGI], that his father was Alexander BALL who came from Deverill, Wilts and I have traced that family back through Luke BALL to John BALL b. about 1714 Deverill, Longbridge, Wilts.

I wonder if anyone is researching the same family, or have any information regarding Shrivenham or indeed Faringdon (where his son, my g.grandfather was b. about 1839). I live not far away from the Berkshire border and am hoping to take a trip to find any gravestones regarding the BALLS.

Is there anyone who has been to this area that might have a few tips for me. Looking at the map it seems that Deverill, Wilts is not far from Shrivenham, but then again my geography might not be as good as it could be. Ican see how Alexander might have crossed over the border into Berkshire, that is where lived after he was married.

Barbara
