GRO overseas registrations are unlikely to be much help to you.
You have advised that your family are Roman Catholic and I'm afraid this information is the key to you not finding your mum's birth or baptism included in the India Office Records. Many of the RC Churches did NOT send copies of the registers to the India Office. Your only hope is to try and identify in which Church she may have been baptised and write directly to them, or to the RC Diocesan Office in Calcutta.
Incidentally, in general there were no "Birth Certificates" from India, instead you are searching for a Baptism record or certificate.

Thank you for your help, I saw my sister yesterday and she told me that she had never seen a baptism or birth certificate for our mother, also she doesnt have a birth certificate herself, mother was a British Subject when she came here in 1948 as were the rest of our family. My brother became a British Citizen about 4 years later and so did my cousins and Aunt, and I have found details on Ancestry, but although I did my National Service in the RAF I never thought to get my British Citizenship until 2000 when an immigration officer advised me that it would be in my best interests to get my citizenship as soon as possible, so I did that and that's when I saw my baptism papers for the first time. This is also when I found out that my British nationality comes through my grandfather, - not my father.
By the way, I am male- its my wife who is the member!!
Anyway, we are hoping to go to the British Library some time, maybe I will find more about my family then.

Georgina Mary Gill
I need some help in trying to find my husband's mother's birth in India. We know the date, but haven't been able to find anything on Family Search, FIBIS or British Library. She was born in Calcutta, according to what she told the family, on 27 December 1902, and that's on her gravestone, but we would like to find out who her parents were and what they were doing there. She was a Catholic, she was of Indian descent, and married my father in law, Eric Bray in Lahore (family originally from Cornwall) in 1934.
Any ideas would be most welcome, as I have been unable to find anything during the past 5 years or so that I have been doing the family tree.
I await with trepidation on this one, as I have just about lost all hope on solving this problem!!

I have appended your new thread of today with your thread from 2008. This is so that forum members will not duplicate suggested courses of research proposed previously.

Indeed, thanks to Adele for appending your new request which almost duplicates the previous one. Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate from Lahore in 1934? That should give the name of Georgina Gill's father, after which it may be worth your while searching for his marriage rather than her baptism. You might also then trying searching for information about him in the Thackers Indian Directories at the British Library - it could (only could!) help identify the family and where they were living.
Also, do keep checking the FIBIS database as new material is constantly being added

Other than that, I have no other advice to offer to supplement advice offered previously.

Hi, I'm from India. Try contacting St. Thomas' Church, Middleton Row, Calcutta or Kolkata (as it is now called). It's one of the oldest Catholic churches in the heart of the city. You might find contact details on the net. They do have baptism records for that period. Best of luck.

Thanks for that information I will have a look round for St Thomas' Church, and if I dont find it on the web I might just write to the Church.
I have looked at the marriage certificate and it states that her father was Edward Gill, and the only one I thought most probable was Edward Henry Gill, so I checked his army records on findmypast, but although he was in the right place, there is no record of a marriage or any children while he was in the army. He left the army at Dalhousie in 1902, and I cant seem to find anything else after that time to connect him to Georgina.
