    Default Albert Benson

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for family of Albert Benson born 1874 Leominster, Hereford m Mary Ann reynolds. Family traditions says he was adopted by a Mrs Crump but I have hit a blank wall.
I have a list of his children but no parents. I have a list of possible siblings (Fanny, Fredrick and Annie) but have no idea if they are biologically related.

Is anyone able to help me?

    Thanks so much, Alisan

    Hi Alisan,

Do you have Albert in any of the censuses? If so, by what name is he recorded - Benson or Crump?

    Hi Alisan

Do you have his marriage certificate?, wondered if he left father's name blank.

    Default Albert Benson

No, I have nothing other than wife and offspring. It seems that I will have to look for a certificate.
In the online BMD 1837-1983 I have found an Albert Percy F Benson b1894 (20 yrs later than my notes have him ... but the only one coming up that is in the ball park) but nothing is written for 'mother'.
    Thanks for your effort, folks.

    Hi Alisan

The Albert Percy F Benson could be the son of Albert as there is an Albert P with the family in the 1901 census. You won't find any of the Mother's details on the index for this time period, you will have to order the certificate throught the GRO for £7. You can do this online. The certificate will tell you Mary Ann's maiden name.

The details that you use to order the certificate. - Albert Percy F Benson, 1894 Q2 Leominster 6a 487

Also possible registration details for Leonard - Leonard James Benson, 1900 Q1 Leominster 6a 567

Just for information 1901 census details.

    Hope under Dinmore, Herefordshire

    Albert Benson 27
    Albert P Benson 6
    Gladys Benson 2
    Leonard Benson 1
    Mary A Benson 27

    Class: RG13; Piece: 2495; Folio: 57; Page: 3.

This looks like the marriage registration for Albert and Mary Ann

Mary Ann Reynolds, (Albert Benson), 1894 Q1 Leominster 6a 887

If you order this certificate, again for £7 via the GRO online facility you will be able to see if Albert gives any name for his father.

The 1881 census that JACVAL found is certainly worth a follow up. It fits in with the crump family, an Albert born Leominster and is in the right area.

    Here are the 1881 details

    Yarpole., Herefordshire

Emma Crump 45 Wife, born Kingsland.
    Thomas Crump 22 Son
    William Crump 62 Head,
    William Crump 21 Son
Albert Davies 7 born Leominster, Boarder.

    Class: RG11; Piece: 2607; Folio: 141; Page: 21

    The same family in 1891

    Yarpole

    Emma Crump 55
    Mary A Crump 30
    Sydney J Crump 5
    William Crump 70
    William Crump 31
    William C Crump 3
    Florence Jones 2
Albert Davies 17 Boarder born Leominster

    Class: RG12; Piece: 2074; Folio 121; Page 15

    Default Albert BENSON

Albert, Mary Ann & children are in the 1901 census of Hope under Dinmore, Herefordshire (RG13/2495, folio 57, page 3). If you do not already have this let me know and I will post full details. There is a marriage registration on the GRO Index of an Albert BENSON in the March qtr 1894 at Leominster reg district, vol 6a, page 887 and a corresponding entry for a Mary Ann REYNOLDS. The page no on both records is not very clear, but I think it is 887. If you obtain the marriage certificate, which can be purchased online, it will give you the name & profession of Albert's father which should make tracing him in earlier census records somewhat easier.

From the census records there certainly appear to be a family of BENSON in Leominster in the 1870's, a Cordwainer, but the head George James/James George, seems to have moved to Everton by the 1881 census so I don't know if he is connected to your Albert.
