Reid -Davidson.

my 5x great grandparents were David Reid and Gray Davidson who were married in South Leith in1798. They had 6 daughters. I have family information about the Davidson family but so far have been unable to be certain of marrying Gray to the correct David Reid, there seems to be so many with that name.
Could anybody suggest how I can get the correct David Reid as husband of Gray Davidson please. Ideally maybe I could find a contact from one of the other 5 daughters.

Actually I find a total of 10 children born to them and all recorded in South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. Sometimes Scottish families adhered to a naming pattern which can be helpful in identifying previous generations.

1st son named after father's father
2nd son named after mother's father
3rd son named after father
1st daughter named after mother's mother
2nd daughter named after father's mother
3rd daughter named after mother

Perhaps with the full listing of their offspring a pattern will emerge here for you......
