Hello Littlecat and welcome to Brit-Gen

Have a good look round and post your questions on the appropriate boards. However, this is a genealogy forum and we do not cover adoption in the 20th century. Have a look here for places that may help.

Having said that, I am sure that we will be able to help with other family history matters.

    Good luck!

Welcome to the B-G forums and I hope you have some luck with your seach. Obviously we cannot name living people here without their consent, so it is sometimes difficult to go into detail and explain means of research.

My apologies if you have already tried this, but...........One possible route for finding out information is to go back a generation, to your mum's parents and to try and see if they have died and if so, did they leave a will? Wills can be fascinating and mention all sorts of detail - children and grandchildren; who might be traced and help you locate siblings.

Taking your mum's name, you might try to locate a marriage for her - the difficulties being if she has a name which is not unusual (hunting for a Mary Smith is more difficult than looking for someone called say, Arabella Dawn Medler). If you can locate a marriage certificate, names of witnesses can be useful (relations/close friends) also the place of marriage and address given. This can be a starting point to then looking for the lady concerned and any children.

Finding a father, if none is named is one of the trickier problems and unless there was some court record, relies on a member of the family having personal knowledge, for which you may need to go back to the first point of looking for a will.
