A lady phoned a bakery to order a cake for a colleague's leaving party. After agreeing the price and size of the cake, she then said she would like a message written on it. Asked what she wanted written on the cake, she replied " 'Best Wishes Suzanne' and underneath that 'We will miss you'."
This is what the cake looked like

My son-in-law is a cabinetmaker and, as a birthday present, made my husband something he'd always wanted - a sundial. The gift wasn't a surprise as much discussion took place on it's size, shape, design and what appropriate 'sundial type words' would be inscribed on the top. Eventually they decided upon 'Count nought but the sunny hours' in Latin.
As the gift was revealed, everyone noticed (although didn't mention) that the workmanship on the top didn't appear to be up to son-in-law's usual immaculate standard. However, there it was, and around the upper part of the circle were inscribed, in English, the words 'Count nought but the sunny hours' and around the bottom half, again in English 'In Latin'!!
The correct top was however, a beautiful piece of craftsmanship - and it was in Latin!
Moral - vet all potential sons-in-law more carefully in future!!
