    Default 1891 census lookup please?

I am hoping someone with the time and the urge can find this family for me in 1891 please?

I do not have a paid sub to any sites at the moment. There are two deaths on FreeBMD for two fellows about the right age, one before 1891, the other after, so I am curious as to which death is the right one. I have the census entries from 1861-1881 for Stephen thanks, and 1841-1881 for his wife.

Stephen TOWNER, born abt 1821 in Brenchley, Kent, an Ag Lab.
His wife is Elizabeth, nee Dartnall, usually shown as born abt 1830 in Brenchley (though christened 1828 at Lamberhust)
Daughters who may be at home - Clarissa, Violet Rose (m 1897) Victoria Augusta, Henrietta Gertrude.

And if anyone has the urge to do 1901 as well, I will not say no

    Thank you

    Henrietta G 24 daughter
    Blanche E 20 g/daughter

With them a lodger John Heasell 31 general labourer born Tilsbury Wiltshire

I'll look for the 1901 now.

Well Stephen is still at Blowers Farm but different rellies and head of household.

    RG/13/760 Folio 36 Page 16
John Heasell HEAD 61 (I thought his age on the 1891 census was a bit suss)
John is a market gardener on his own account. Same birth place.
Stephen Towner boarder 81 ag lab
Victoria Towner boarder 37 laundry maid
    Henrietta Towner boarder 33 -----------
All Towners down as born Matfield.

    So Elizabeth dead? Blanche married?

If you want anything else give a yell.

    Many thanks Christina

The lodger who ended up the head of the household has been with them at Blowers since 1861!

That has cleared up a couple of loose ends, and given me a time frame for Elizabeth's death. Back to FreeBMD...

    thanks again

    Hi ChristineR
I was bored so thought I would go looking for Victoria and Augusta in 1891. Found
Agusta (sic) age 23 at Cambridge Street, general servant to Mary West born Pembroke Dock Wales. RG12/678 Folio 51 page 3.
But Victoria I can't crack. The only one anywhere near is a Victoria Fuller age 27 with a Pout family as cook. Mr Pout is a retired surgeon. But the only things that match are her first name and age. Birth given as Maidstone Kent.
I did find Blanche E marrying in March 1/4 1900 Tonbridge vol 2a page 935 groom Amos John Seymour.
I know this because I went to the 1901 census and guess what. They are on the same page as Stephen Towner and John Heasell.
Amos 23 is down as farmer's son even though he is not in the same house as his father.
The last entry on the page is possibly his mother Mary Seymour 53 born Withyham Sussex (same as Amos) and father Horace 52 farmer - employer, born Wadhurst Sussex residing at Malfold (?) Farm.
Don't know whether you needed this but it gave me a break from my head banging lot.

That's great thanks Christina - I had found it on FreeBMD, but couldn't work out which her marriage was, Hill or Seymour. Great.

Umm, these lasses changes their names around to suit themselves!

    FreeBMD
    Births Dec 1862
TOWNER Caroline Victoria Augusta , so a choice of three - I have never seen the Caroline used.

An older sister who I didn't mention as she was married already - Alice Elizabeth married a John FULLER in 1875. Seems a bit of a coincidence with names there.

Gives me more to play with - tomorrow I think!

Here's another little quirk ChristineR - which you probably have I bet but anyway....
    In 1891 census RG12/683 Folio 38 page 19
John Fuller 37, Farmer born Dallington (?) Kent
    Alice Fuller 37 B Brenchley
Henry E 15 Wheelwright born Pembury Kent
    Lillie M I (J) 11 born Brenchley
    Lewis A G age 3 born Brenchley
The address? Da da!! Matfield Lodge Farm which is the correct address for Stephen and John Heasell in 1901.

    In 1901 RG13/760 Folio 33 page 10
John and Alice are now living in Ivy cottage and John is a farmer and employer.
Henry 25 is still a wheelwright on own account
Lillie M is down as Mabel age 21 laundry maid (wash)
    Lewis 13
    Lowey 9
    Stanley 6
Alice and children are all down as born Benchley but John is now born in
    Burmarsh Sussex.

I'll butt out now - unless you want/need more

Go for it - you haven't told me anything that I knew yet!

See, serves me right for not mentioning the married daughter after all - as you would have spotted her the first time. That is Alice, as two of the kids were born by 1881, John's place of birth is Burwash, Sussex on the 1881 census.

I had only just started looking into this family so didn't have anything after the 1881 census on any of them. Not real close mind you, 3rd cousins once and twice removed.

Want a crack at Violet Rose? born 1860 Brenchley, married 1897 to either Charles Abraham PEACHEY or George Henry SWIFT.

Then that will wrap that lot up for now

    Thanks for your help

    Here she is Christine

    1901 census RG13/762 Folio 6 page 3

Address Toll Home, Summer Hill (both in address column on left) Parish of Marden

Charles Abraham Peachey 36 gardener, domestic, worker, born Yeldenhall Suffolk
Violet Rose Peachey 40 born Matfield Kent
Charles Lee (Leo?) 12 months born Pembury Kent.

Oh I do wish my lot were this easy. Isn't it marvellous that the way out branches can be found a lot easier than some of the direct ones. And even easier when they are nothing to do with us at all.
