Hi I have people by the surname of "Detnon" but the trail cuts off on Albert Detnon who died in 1909, but does not seem to have a birth certificate? I think it may be a corruption of another name, but not sure. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do? Thanks

Can you tell us where he was born/lived/died? That helps narrow down the possibilities.
Have you found him in the censuses?

Albert Detnon
Age on death certificate is 58 years (so born sometime around 1851)
Died 5/06/1909 - Royal Albert Dock - North Woolwich - found drowned
Albert married Louisa Young 10/12/1881 - Bethnal Green, Middlesex
On Marriage certificate names father as "Benjamin Detnon" - deceased at time of marriage.
I have found him on the census' after his marriage to Louisa, they had 10 children;
Florence
Ellen
Charles
Albert
Alfred
Mary Ann
George
Hannah
Thomas
Louisa
(Those arent in order by the way!!I know all about these, it's just their father I have no info on!!)
Area of residence in 1901 census is West Ham, Essex, where they also misread the name as "Debrow"
Thanks

Right.
I've had a look through the GRO from January 1851 to December 1852 and can find no-one with the name of Detnon. Maybe someone else may be able to see one.
I see from the 1901 census that he was recorded as having been born in Mile End. The Mile End Old Town registration district did not come into being until 1857 so the area was, I believe, covered by Stepney. I did find a couple of DETTMAN and DETMAN names recorded in Stepney, however your Albert was not amongst them.
It may be that his birth was either not registered or that it was under yet another spelling...
Back to the drawing board...

There's an Albert Denton b Sep q 1850 in Hackney, which is not that far away
ref Hackney 3 198
Have you found Albert in earlier censuses? Does he always say he's born in Mile End?

1881 Census - born in Mile End Old Town, that's all i've found i think, or that one and the 1901 I have printed off in my folder!
Yeah I'm beginning to think it was Denton and got mispelt or misheard along the way somewhere, good thing is from then on, all the Detnon's born post 1860 that I've ever found belong in my tree!
Thanks for time and help

I've seen him in 1891 and he was born Mile End then. However, his year of birth was put at 1854 in that one
However, we all know how accurate the censuses were...
