Thank you for that last posting - I did already have Catherine's baptism details.

Peter - I appreciate your comments - Ann Maria's first marriage to George Horton is not shown anywhere in the GRO indexes either but I do have a copy of that Marriage Cert! It was obtained by a relative from the Records Office, so miracles do happen sometimes!

Ann Maria's first marriage to George Horton is not shown anywhere in the GRO indexes
    I think it is

    Marriages Sep 1853
ANDREWS Ann Maria Canterbury 2a 776
    HORTON Henry Canterbury 2a 776
    MILES Elizabeth Canterbury 2a 776
    WOOD William Canterbury 2a 776

There may be a minor error there but it's good enough for ordering a certificate. In any case, it seems to be shown correctly in the Kent Registration Service's index.

You can add a postem to the FreeBMD entry to help other searchers.

Born at Turnpike House, Deal (Ann Maria's sister and husband were known to have been Tollgate Keeper/Collectors). Christened at Walmer.
I believe there has been a third marriage here of which I was previously unaware. The problem I now have is that I can find no marriage record between Robert Miller and Ann Maria Andrews (or even Horton as she was after first marriage) throughout the whole of Kent.
Ann Maria's address is shown on Catherine's birth cert as Spring Gardens, Wincheap Street, Canterbury.
Does anyone have access to the St Mildred's marriage entries between 1855 and 1857? I believe this may be the most likely place for the marriage.
Any help at all on this would be much appreciated.

Hello Jean, I did have access to Parish records but Canterbury Archives have been closed and we now have to go to Uni of Kent which I haven't been to yet. I am not sure how long the "closure" is to a last as it is to repair the Cathedral library roof.
Looking back at notes I made previously when looking for Bennet Andrewsb1814 who is sister to Catherine b1819 & Ann Maria b1834.I have a note from St Mildreds parish records Ann Maria m George Horton age 14 I will have noted that just for interest as I was not looking for her and the age would have surprised me. I will have a look at the weekend for any photocopies I may have got at the time since my notes maybe unreliable as I wasn't looking for her in particular. I will double check for you and get back to you.

Canterbury Cathedral Archives collection of parish registers is being scanned and will go online via Findmypast starting this month (allegedly). The parishes involved are those of the Archdeaconry of Canterbury (ie East Kent)

Thanks Peter - the entries shown would explain why I hadn't found it - the Marriage Cert definitely shows him as "George". Will be good when the registers are posted as a lot of this family appeared to have been baptised/married/buried in St Mildred's church/churchyard.

Koops - Ann Maria was actually 21 when she married George - certificate shows her "of full age". Do you happen to have any more on Catherine Jamieson and where she may have lived in between the 1851 and 1861 censuses? I do have most of the info on her and Thomas, including marriage/children/deaths etc.
