I've been looking at other trees and it's interesting as they have george thorpe's (oxon or bucks) married to sarah's with either the last name of oliver or dormer! Now Elizabeth has a middle name of dormer but they also have a child oliver! You think a transcription error has everyone messed up?

Not sure if everyone related to this thread are still on it but, although I didn't have Elizabeth Dormer Thorpe listed, I do have another sibling, Sophia Thorpe, daughter of George Thorpe and Sarah Dormer, baptised Stratton Audley 7 Mar 1819. I have her siblings as Olliffe (spelling as recorded and b.23 Dec 1820), Alfred (b.14 Dec 1823), William (b.14 June 1826) and Rebecca (b. 12 Nov 1826). Sarah did not appear on the 1841 census at Stratton Audley as she was already married to William Wise of Twyford (married 13 Aug 1839). He was a son of JOseph Wise and Ann Reed or Read.
Do we know anything further about Elizabeth Dormer Thorpe?
William and Sophia (nee Thorpe) Wise arrived in Australia with their two surviving children (including my husband's great great grandmother Maria Wise) in 1848 and had a further eight children here. Another family researcher from this line has been able to provide me with more information regarding the parents and grandparents of Sarah Dormer but I don't have anything further on George Thorpe. Any information would be gratefully accepted.

I cannot add to much to the info that your have have, but I can confirm that George Thorp married Sarah Dormer in 1814 at Waddesdon Bucks. My husband is decended from Oliver b1820 who married Susannah Bryan in 1841 (they are the couple on the 1841 census Jan's post #2). Elizabeth Dormer Thorp married Thomas Walker 1839 they too are on the 1841 with George 1791 - 1845 and Sarah nee Dorma c1791 - 1865. (they can be followed through the census)
There are two possible entries for Sarah Dorma on family search (please be aware there are also member submitted entries, for this family - please treat them with caution) one is the daughter of Hannah Dormer of Caversham, Oxfordshire bap 10/5/1789 or daughter of Edward and Sarah 30/1/1785, Radnage, Buckinghamshire. I must admit the birth to Hannah fit better with the year of birth as entered by Sarah, but I have not been to the records office, yet, to confirm or deny it. Sarah consistantly names her place of birth as Waddesden Bucks. If you want any info on our line (Oliver), just let me know.
I think you have made a typo on your post William was bap 14/6/1829 (not 1826)

Ooops sorry .....yes, it was a typo. It's 1829 for William. Thank you.
I am away from home for a few days but have my laptop with me and just checked on some information that I was emailed from another descendant of Sophia Thorpe and William Wise. Last year she spent some time in the UK, researching, and visited Stratton Audley and Twyford, and according to her research while there, has the following information on Sophia's parents George and Sarah.
Sarah Dormer married George Thorpe in Waddeson, Buckingham on 7th Dec 1814. She had been baptised in Waddeson on 27th June 1791,a daughter of Dominick Dormer and Mary Grace.
Dominick Dormer was baptiesd in Waddeson on 23 April, 1748 and he was a son of Darius Dormer(born Waddeson 19 July 1717) and Mary Honnor (born Waddeson c.1770) who married in St Michael and All Angels, Waddeson on 2 Dec 1770.
Mary Grace was born in Qainton, Buckingham 3 March 1748 to Thomas Grace and his wife Mary (surname unknown).
All I have regarding George Thorpe's parents are that they were apparently George Thorpe (Snr) and Jenny Roads (or maybe Rhodes).
I only have the emailed deteails so far but from what I know she was very thorough in her research and would no doubt have visited the local church/churches.
Is Olliffe the local dialect for Oliver or just due to a variation of accent? I get so confused by some of the names as they appear written in documents and on census reports.

Thank you so much for sharing that info - I think another visit to the Bucks RO is on the cards.
The name Oliver was used down the generations - my late FIL had it as his second name and hated it, so did not pass it on to his sons. He pronounced it Ol-if-fer (Oll/iff/e), probably a legacy of his Oxfordshire granny (Sarah Elizabeth Thorp - granddaughter of Oliver thorp)

I just realised that I had anogthet typo......wth Mary Honnor's YOB the same as her marriage (1770) .....lol. It should have been c.1720.
Thank you for explaining the name Oliver to me and the variation of spelling. I would be interested to know what you find out when you get a chance to visit the Bucks RO; when the lass from Australia was over there she apparently spent some time in tracking down the info she gave me.
I live in Queensland, Australia but she is in New South Wales so we have only 'met' by email but I am grateful to her for providing me with what she discovered.
Due to large families on all of mys sides, I have so far restricted my research on the children of Sophia Thorpe and William Wise to the two children who were born in Twyford Buckingham ....my husband's great great granadmother Maria Wise and her brother Charles. There were apparently three other sons born in Twyford between the births of those two but they died in infancy.
Charles married in Sept 1862 and what did he name his first two children, both sons? They were named Alfred and Oliver.
His third daughter was named Sarah while Maria took up George and William for two of her sons. Sophia had also previously used Sarah, Alfred and Elizabeth.
