Hi all,
I've a bit of aI'm trying to find out if Oliver (b.abt 1821), Alfred (b. abt 1826), and William (b. abt 1828) Thorpe, all born in Stratton Audley, Buckinghamshire are brothers.
I know Stratton Audley is now in Oxfordshire but apparently it was in Bucks until 1844. If I can connect these three via their parents I can actually connect the dots workig forward so any help is greatly appreciated.
Could someone please do a look up for me on this to let me get a little further?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Hi there,
It looks like you were right the first time with Oxfordshire! I don't know, these Enumerators could never make up their minds.
Back to the matter in hand. I did the look-up in 1841 based on William as he was the youngest:
William Thorp
Age: 12
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1829
Gender: Male
Where born: Oxfordshire, England
Civil Parish: Stratton Audley
Hundred: Ploughley
County/Island: Oxfordshire
Country: England
Registration district: Bicester
Sub-registration district: Bicester
Household Members: Name Age
Alfred Thorp 15
George Thorp 50 Ag Lab
Olleffa Thorp 20 (I take this to be Oliver)
Sarah Thorp 50
Susanna Thorp 20
William Thorp 12
Elizabeth Walker 25
Thos Walker 24
All Y to having been born in the county

You are a true blue hero thank you so much .. with the exchange rate at the moment it is killing me trying to connect some of the dots!!
Thank you so much for your time and resources it is truly appreciated.
I'm trying to do this for my Aunt as well as my kids as she is the last surviving brother/sister/mother/father of her side. She's in her late 60's and is really excited when I call and tell her about new discoveries.
Thank you again.

You're welcome, Lorna.

You would have had the answer earlier but I lost all internet connection this evening
'Tis now getting a bit late, so maybe someone else could see if they are around in 1851 etc. If not, and connections permitting, I may have a rummage tomorrow evening.

In 1841 relationships are not recorded. Plus, ages of those over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Therefore, Oliver and Susanna could be any age between 20 and 24.
Although why Thomas Walker's age was given as 24, goodness only knows. By rights, he should have been recorded as 20 as well...

Hi Lorna
I think the Oliver and Susannah on the 1841 census are husband and wife not brother and sister.
Its all so a possibility that the Elizabeth and Thomas Walker living in the same household are family, Elizabeth being George and Sarah's married daughter.
Sandy
PS some more info to follow when I've sorted it out for you
