Hi My grandfather joined the army in 1906 under the name Alfred Taylor. He also worked for the India railway and got married and divorced using the name Taylor. He was however Alfred Rudman when born and changed back to Rudman when he returned to England. We think, before he joined the army he had joined up in the Merchant navy but jumped ship after a few months because he friend said the army was better. I am wondering if this was the reason for the name change. anybody any ideas as to were I could find any possible records for his very short navel stint. he seems to have led more of a life than we thought. many thanks
