    Hi Pat

I had a look 1841 Census index for Coventry that was put out by Coventry Family History Society and only found one George Hunter who was 40years and a ribbon weaver and his wife Mary 35 years who was not born in Warwickshire. Their address was Oldbrookes.

    Default George HUNTER

From the LDS 1851 transcript of Warwicks could this be the George HUNTER you were originally seeking:

Name Relationship Mar Age Sex Occupation Birthplace
    Gorge HUNTER Head - 42 M Painter Coventry-War
    Ann HUNTER Wife - 46 F Coventry-War
    Henery HUNTER Son U 20 M Painter Coventry-War
    Emma HUNTER Daur - 12 F S Winder Coventry-War
    Gorge HUNTER Son - 10 M School Coventry-War

Address: Upper Well St, Coventry 400
Census Place: Coventry Holy Trinity Coventry 400, Warwickshire
PRO Reference: HO/107/2068 Folio: 85 Page: 24 FHL Film: 0087331

The following record looks like the George HUNTER that Nadia found in the 1841 census, but there is no George jnr:

Name Relationship Mar Age Sex Occupation Birthplace
    George HUNTER Head M 50 M Ribbon Weaver Foleshill-War
    Mary HUNTER Wife M 42 F Ribbon Weaver Foleshill-War
    John HUNTER Fath W 84 M Ribbon Weaver Foleshill-War
    David BENNETT Neph U 15 M Ribbon Weaver Foleshill-War
    Charles OVER Lodg U 40 M Ribbon Weaver Nuneaton-War
Edward MULLIS Lodg U 20 M Lab On A Farm

    Address: Penny Park, Foleshill
    Census Place: Foleshill Foleshill, Warwickshire
PRO Reference: HO/107/2066 Folio: 342 Page: 32 FHL Film: 0087327

    Hope this helps.

    Janet.

    Default George Hunter

    Hello Nardia

Please could you tell me if the index you have covers Rugby as well.
I have just found the George junior was born in Rugby in 1841.
So I think George and Mary must be a relation of some kind.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Hello Janet,

Thankyou for your reply. And for the information, the line I have been researching is the first one, the family who are in Coventry in 1851.
I think in 1841 they where in Rugby as that is where George junior was born.
Do your discs cover Rugby as well as Coventry.
    Many thanks.

    Default George HUNTER

    Hello Pat,

The only HUNTERs on the 1851 census transcript with a connection to Rugby that I can find are the following two:

    Mary HUNTER Head U 29 F Dress Maker Burslem-STF
    Sarah HUNTER Sis U 24 F Dress Maker Swinford-LEC
    John BROWN Neph - 8 M Rugby-WAR
    James BROWN Neph - 4 M Rugby-WAR

    Address: 7 North Street, Rugby
    Census Place: Rugby Rugby, Warwickshire
PRO Reference: HO/107/2069 Folio: 310 Page: 5 FHL Film: 0087333

Unfortunately I do not have the 1841 census so cannot look for your George on that.

However, I did look on the historical directories online site and searched the 1842 Pigots of Warwickshire and there is a George HUNTER listed under the Plumbers, Painters and Glaziers section in Rugby, so it looks as though you might be correct in that your George could have been born in Rugby. You might be able to track George snr through these directories.

    Good luck.

    Janet.
