Amy Page

I am trying to follow a branch on my tree but not sure where to go next. The relative I am trying to find is Amy Page who emmigrated to Canada. She married some one called Hurcombe (surname I think!) and had three children Muriel, Stuart and Edward. I believe they lived in Vancouver. Amy was born in Chorlton/Manchester area in 19.09.1901. Her parents were Walter and Alice Page. Looking on Findmypast I have found an entry on passenger lists for Amy Bertha Page aged 19 travelling from Liverpool, England to Halifax, Canada. If someone could direct me to any resources or simply tell me I do not have enough information to find anything I would be grateful. Thanks

Thanks - yes I have this - its the Canada bit that I need more on. Amy seems to have gone to Canada, married and had a family but little more is known about her.

Unfortunately the on-line resources for the Canadian provinces varies widely and due to privacy laws the BMD indexes are few and far between. B.C. does have the BMD on line at http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-9E13CA/gbsearch but I don't see any Hurcombe deaths or marriages for the Page name.
Another good resource site that has lots of links is http://www.islandnet.com/~jveinot/cghl/cghl.html

If you find any names of interest in the B.C. Vital Statistics site post them and I can obtain the record at the local library.

Hi, 'melsibob'. If you put just the above facts together and look for Amy's maiden surname in the British Columbia Death Index: 1872 to 1979, you'll find the death record for someone with exactly the same first and middle names, i.e. "Amy Bertha Page", age 76, who died on 9 Jul 1966 in Duncan, B.C.; Registration #: 1966-09-009437, "BCA" #: B13278,. I would suggest that the recorded age at death on this index is close enough, given the exact match on name, to justify getting a copy of the certificate from British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency (whose Web address as of Apr2008 was http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/ ) to see whether the person recorded is "your" Amy and, if so, what other information it contains and whether it references her marriage and children.

Duncan is located in lumber country west of Vancouver in the Cowichan Valley of southern Vancouver Island; it boasts over 70 First Nations totem poles and the 'The World's Largest Hockey Stick' ("Beauty, eh!") If this is the same Amy, her husband may have gone there for work in the lumber industry. Hope this helps and best of luck! Ian

I'm not very experienced at Canadian searching, but I found a possibility for Amy on the immigration records at the Canadian National Archives site here:

If the link works then click on "search help" and it will tell you how to order a copy. The cost is very reasonable-just postage and copying costs. The record I got showed home address parents occupation and which province the person was heading to.

I also looked at the national phone directory-just googleCanada 411- and there are only 2 Hurcombes listed for the whole of Canada, one in Burlington ,Ontario and one in Chilliwack. BC-might be worth an out of the blue "Hi I may be your cousin " type letter?
