Default PLACE NAME NOT FOUND ON GENUKI - DEVON

I have come across a reference to a place named as S Kemersland. This was from parish registers in the early 1700's. Has anyone any idea what/where this is? I have looked at GENUKI - Devon but couldn't find it.

I looked on Genie, and a couple of other search engines, but nothing like that comes up....is it clearly shown as that, or is there room for doubt? If so, is there any chance that you could copy the word here for us to look at?

Sorry, I have just realised that you were looking at PRs so you probably aren't able to post a copy.

The name was included in information I recieved from someone else. I suppose it could also have been the name of a property.

The only thing I found that sounded even remotely like the name was a ship,
    S. Kumersland I think from memory, and it appeared to be German. So obviously not what you are looking for.

    Will have another scout around.

The only place it came up in a google was in relationship to a burial at Coleridge,

"4 September 1745 - She was the wife of Xtopher Stoneman from S Kemersland when she was buried at Coldridge parish church"

Quite some time later, an 1893 directory for Coleridge, shows a place 'Skinnersland', as a residence - possibly a property name.

The place was still called Coleridge at that time - now Coldridge.

    Hello Glenys

Thanks for trying to help, The surname is "Stoneman" and there were plenty of them in Devon which is where the name seems to have originated. I don't know if people travelled much in the late 1600's/early 1700's. The family moved in lots of different direction in the 1800's. I did wonder if the "S" was South in which case there would have been a "North" Kemersland somewhere. I googled and didn't come up with anything so perhaps the spelling is wrong and its a sound like word.

Well Done Christine, Skinnersland makes sense if it was a property. I wonder if it still exists.
