    Default Wigan mines

can any one tell me how i can get details about my grandad Robert Howarth as child worked down the mine.
till he joined the Lanacashire Fusilers and served in ww1
the mine i think was near Standish gate Wigan near Little London which was wear he lived.
would like to be able to get a copy of his work record or just to learn more about the mine and what conditions were like
    thank you

For some really interesting history about the mines in general, visit the Durham Mining Museum website:

    http://www.dmm.org.uk/mindex.htm

They may also have some information about where your grandfather worked.
