I thought I'd tackle one of my brickwalls. My husband's ggg-grandfather George Cutter is living in Islington in 1841 and 1851.
My only clue to his origins when he states that he was born in Hampshire. I know that it's a very long shot but has anyone come across George.

It's not much help, but if you search the 1841 census for CUTTERs in Hampshire - theren't aren't very many. Interestingly, one is George CUTTER aged 60 in Winchester - see HO107/409/6 f18 p31
The 1861 census entries for CUTTER in Hants all seem to be in groups and may give hints as to where to look in parish registers

Thanks for the reply Geoffers, & for the hint.
I've also had a look for the Cotters & am just about to look for Cutlers, a common misindexing.
I'm also trying to place a George Cutter who pops up in Islington in 1861, born c.1808 in Hampshire (again no Parish) & a stone-mason. I haven't found him in previous censuses & I do wonder if he might be my man lowering his age as his wife is only 36.
