my great grandfather is daniel banks from the ones above
after looking into it more closely i have found that
Charles Banks who is meant to be Daniel Banks father could not be as charles died 2 approx 2 years before Dan was born
Dans mother Re-married well after dan was born to Thomas Bostock
However Thomas is in past census as a lodger in the house whilst charles was still alive so putting two and two together to make 8 i assume Thomas Bostock is Dans real father but took on the banks house hold name
i am looking really for anyone from the banks or bostock of willenhall related to any of the above people

Do you have Daniel's marriage cert? That should give you his father's name. His birth cert will give you his mother's name.
If you don't have them and don't know how to obtain them, just give a shout and someone will leap in and help.

First, see if you can find them on a site such as FreeBMD:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
This will provide the district and reference numbers that you need.
Then, you can order the certificates online here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
If you have any problems, let us know and we'll try to help.

Gather as much info as you can from family members (if you haven't already done so), working backwards from your parents.
I assume you are working from known info gathered from family members when you give Daniel's birth date. Do you also know who he married or roughly when/where?
The next step is to find the registration of the birth/marriage/death. This can be done by visiting http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl. This is a free site, but not yet complete, so don't be surprised if your ancestor doesn't appear there.
For the marriage: If Daniel was born in 1885 he is unlikely to have been married before 1905, so you can enter that as the start date. You will see that there are several marriages for Daniel Banks, starting in 1908. The early ones don't give spouse's surname, but the later ones do, so you can easily see if it's the right one. For the early ones you have to click on the page number to get a list of possible spouses. You need the reference number to order the certificate from the GRO (General Register Office) http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl. This reference number consists of the year (say 1900) the quarter (say MAR) the volume (say 6b for Wolverhampton) and a page number, so you would need MAR1900 Wolverhampton vol 6b p22.
The same system applies for births. I think your man was registered as 'Dan' Banks JUN1885 Wolverhampton 6b/624, as Willenhall comes under Wolverhampton.
Hope that helps. If you don't understand my ramblings, please feel free to ask again.

OK, so let's look for Daniel's marriage on FreeBMD. http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
In the search box enter Daniel's names and HOWARTH in the spouse's surname and you will come up with the following:
Jun 1917
Banks Daniel Howarth Wolverhampton 6b 930
If you click on 930 it will bring up all the other people married on that page, including Annie HOWARTH.
Armed with this reference (which has cost you nothing) you go to the GRO website http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ where you can order the marriage certificate (cost £7). Follow the link for 'ordering certificates' on the righthand side of the page and follow the instructions.
This certificate will give you bride and groom's fathers' names and occupations. With any luck the witnesses will be someone from the family, which might also be of use to you. Ordering certificates is the only way to be absolutely certain you are following the right path to your ancestors
