Thanks Neil - it didn't help my research to have two numbers on his army paybook front cover had 335 inside was 442. Can I be cheeky and ask if you can help with my other GGd? Bombardier James Blumfield in the Royal Artillery and was invalided home from South Africa, arrived at Yately 1 May 1878. He died on 12 April 1879 just five months before his only child was born. 1874 m cert gives him as a Gunner living in Woolwich barracks. I may have found his d cert as Bloomfield, common error.
