Default Look up for Rogers in North Petherton, please.

Could someone please look to see if there is a record on 1901 Census for North Petherton of a butcher with surname Rogers, not sure of the first name (possibly Harry or Henry but maybe not).
He had a daughter named Alice and her twin named either John/Jack or Walter John/Jack.

    Many thanks,
    KateW

There are a few Rogers families in N Petherton. The one who is a butcher doesn't look like the one you are looking for:

    John ROGERS 49 Butcher
    Elizabeth A 43
    Edwin I 20 butcher
    Wilfred R 10
    Annie B 7
    John W 5
    Bertham (?) A 3
    All born N Petherton

    Harry ROGERS 30 bricklayer
    Alice 24
    Kate 2
(I've been frozen out of the image, so can't tell you any more at present)

    Davran,

Thank you for your reply and searching for me. The name is not known for sure so it could be him. I'll take the info and make some more enquiries from the family.

    Many thanks.

    Hello again,
I've been told that it's possible that family memories may be wrong - so we are being more open minded about the occupation of Harry Rogers from North Petherton.

This is the information we think is correct so far:
He was born Sept Qtr 1870 and his father was a Carpenter.
He married Alice Maud Saunders in Sept Qtr 1896 (she was born Sept Qtr 1874)
They had at least 3 children:
Walter John Rogers and Alice Rogers - twins born Sept Qtr 1905 and Bessie Rogers born 1912.

I wonder if the Bricklayer Harry Rogers that you found on 1901 census is the same chap? He was married to an Alice and if so then also had a daughter Kate. This is quite possible as 9 years from marriage to first child would seem unlikely.....what do you think? I would also think they may have had more children between 1905 and 1912.

I would appreciate any help as I'm not sure where to look up this information.
I suppose the 1891 census might give an occupation as he would have been 20 or 21 that year.

    Many thanks
    KateW

    Hi Kate

    Harry and family in 1891:
    Francis 52 carpenter & joiner
    Harriet 46 b Bishops Lydeard
    Frank 21 wheelwright
    Harry 19 mason's appren
    Frederick ? mason's labourer
    Alice 13
    William J 10
    Herbert 8
All b N Petherton except Harriet
    Ref: RG12/1881 FOL37 P14
The image is rather feint, so not sure of young Fred's age. You can look up 1881 yourself as that is free!

I have been trying to look for the birth of Kate and any more children on FreeBMD, but am having problems with that site at the moment. You can do that yourself on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl. If you just type in ROGERS in the surname box, then dates between 1896 and 1905, select SOMERSET in the counties list and click on find, that should bring up a selection. I'm not sure what district N Petherton is in.

    Have fun!

    Hi Davran,

Thanks for all that information. I have only just found it as for some reason I didn't get an email notification!

Thanks for checking the 1891 census. It looks like the right Harry and siblings. As Harry was 19 in 1891 and we know ours was born in Sept Qtr 1870, the age is right.

We have checked all the Rogers birth details on FreeBMD already and found 3 children for Harry who's names were known. I probably need to check Bishops Lydeard marriage records for Francis and Harriet as I see she was born there so they may have married there.

    Regards,
    KateW

    Hi Kate,

I know that you posted this some time ago but I may be able to help. My mother has a huge family tree of the Rogers of North Petherton (as my father was a descendant) which may be of interest to you. I think it dates back to around 1570.

    Kind regards,

    Julie

    Hi Julie,

I have asked this question about the Rogers family for a friend who I have been helping with family research. She has asked if I can find out more! If I send you a personal message with my email address would you be happy to let me have some more information from the family tree you mentioned?

    Thanks,
    Kate.
