Birth in 1810 on Exeter St, Plymouth

hello all, proverbial brick wall scenario here, John Main, son of John and Anne (nee Rendle) MainS, born Exeter St, Plymouth, baptised 18/11/1810 in Thurlestone. Trying to find any more info on the family and/or the address itself, just to give me some idea of their living conditions. I realize that its very close to Sutton Pool and we believe that John snr was in the Devon Militia in 1808. He was also listed as a farmer on John jnr first marriage cert and it was common for agricultural workers to enlist. Any feedback at all would be great.

Exeter Street is still in Plymouth today, with the ancient ruined Church of Plymouth Charles on a major 'roundabout' at the intersection of Charles Street and Ebrington Street. It runs above Sutton Harbor, and in 1851 at least, was home to many tradespeople and seamen's families. It is and was, a fairly major thoroughfare.

Thanks DOB, nice to get some idea of the area, i have 'google earthed' it but i rekon it loks very different now, a few ancestors had various ceremonies at the Charles the Martry.

This website is great for anyone wanting to get a feel of Plymouth as it was before the City suffered massive devastation during WW2 (continued by the city planners in the late 1940s/early 1950s)
