    Default Walmgate Barracks, York

I have a relative who, according to the 1901 census, attended the 'District of York Infantry Barracks, Walmgate, Yorks'. He later served in South Africa, presumably during the latter part of the Boer War, and survived to marry in England in 1911. My question is, is there any way of ascertaining which regiment he served with?

Have you looked through the whole census book?

If the regiment isn't stated note officers' names and look them up in the Army List, London Gazetter, Times etc.
