Another stab at this brick wall.

My John Wicken says he was born 1808, went to US abt 1830, died in US after being chandler/grocer in ohio. He had one son (John Edward) and a herd of daughters so I've not much help in this case with the "name game".

Even with variances of the name (wicken, wickin, wickens, wickins) there aren't alot to choose from and I'm now suspecting it might be:

John Wickens Christening: 20 NOV 1808 Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England Born 31 Oct 1808. John Wicken & Elizabeth (from the IGI)

John Wicken & Elizabeth then must be:
John Wicken & ELIZABETH TURNER
Marriage: 28 MAY 1794 Farleigh, Surrey, England

Children born to this couple in Tooting Graveney are:
1. JOHN WICKENS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 20 NOV 1808 Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England

2. CHARLES WICKENS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 15 AUG 1813 Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England

3. WILLIAM WICKINS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 01 MAR 1812 Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England

4. HENRY WICKINS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 18 FEB 1810 Tooting Graveney, Surrey, England

5. ROBERT WICKINS - International Genealogical Index

6. ALFRED WICKENS - International Genealogical Index

I never can pinpoint any of these men again in England, and with the exception of my John...in the US. There are two Elizabeth's that die in the 1840s and perhaps one of them is my John's mother, but What happened to Dad and the brothers?

My John was a chandler/grocer -- avoided farming -- which makes me think his siblings and father also were merchants/clerks as opposed to Ag Lab types.

From Tooting, which way would you go?
