Default 1st Battalion East yorkshire regiment,15th foot

    Hi,
My great grandfather, Robert John Viney B.1856, was a soldier with the First battalion East yorkshire regiment,15th foot, certainly in 1891 and was based
in Victoria barracks, Beverley, Yorkshire. Has anyone got any ideas as to how i could trace his army record ?.

The National Archives (TNA) is a good starting point. They have loads of research guides and are likely to store most of the records of interest.
    On their homepage
    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.htm
Look to the left of the screen. You'll see two sections, 'Family History' which has some useful tips and information if you're getting started; and below that a section headed 'Military History', click on British Army and then the relevant links.

Have a browse around the site, ask if you get lost

    Unhappy East Yorkshire Regiment

I suspect my great grandfather George and his brother William were in this regiment but I'm not 100% sure .
However, William was badly burnt all down his back and was scarred for the rest of his life and never spoke of his war experiences which leads me to believe that he did fight abroad, which probably meant George did too, as he was the same age, give or take a couple of years.
Or does all this sound like conjecture!!!

Without proof it is conjecture - so perhaps this is a good time to honour the memory of two brave men and try to establish what they did in WW1.

Do you have their campaign medals from WW1? Or if not, can you identify them on the medal card index, or the National Roll of the Great War?

    Default WW1

I don't have so much as a photo of William or George, I know William did fight and I assume George would have done but I wouldn't know how to go about looking for them. I had a look for enlistment records but all I found was a george from the Midlands signing up for the Welsh Fusillers and as far as I know it was the wrong George.
On wioth the search I guess.
