Default The White Horse Inn - Broughton (Job lyon)

Can anyone give me any info. re The White Horse Inn, Church St. Broughton.
My G.G.GT. Grandfather, Job Lyon is shown as the Publican at these premises in the 1901 Census.
The pub is no longer there I understand.
Does anyone have any old photos etc - or knowledge of where I could obtain any?

Any info re the LYON family from Broughton / Stanwick villages would be great.

    David.

Did you know the family was running the inn as early as 1891?

    Census: 1891: RG12/1215 Folio 80 Page 6
    Address: White Horse, Broughton, Northamptonshire
-- Job Lyon Head M 60 Publican [born] Norths Ringstead
-- Elisabeth Lyon Wife M 55 [born] Do Denford
-- Thomas E. Lyon Son S 29 Clerk Writing [born] Do Ringstead
-- Job Lyon Son S 22 Do Auctioneer's [born] Do Do
    -- Walter J. P. Grandson S 8 Scholar [born] Do Kettering

    And they're there in 1881 [Ref: RG11/1577 Folio 16 Page 26] and 1871 [Ref: RG10/1504 Folio 16 Page 23]

In 1861, Job Lyon Senior is a Shoemaker and his wife is a dressmaker in Ringstead [Ref: RG9/960 Folio 22 Page 12]. And in 1851, he is a single shoemaker [Ref: HO107/1745 Folio 270 Page1]. In 1841, he is with Samuel and Ann Lyon -- presumably his parents -- in Ringstead.

Still, running an inn for at least 30 years is no mean feat for one family!

BTW, do you have these IGI records?

    Marriage:
-- Job Lyon and Elizabeth Pearson
    -- 28 Dec 1857 Ringstead Northampton England

    Christening:
    -- Job Lyon
    -- 09 Sep 1827 Ringstead Northampton England
    -- Father: Samuel Lyon
    -- Mother: Mary
    -- Batch No.: 7810730

Also with same parents and batch no.:
    -- Mary Anne Lyon
    -- 13 Aug 1820 Stanwick Northampton, England

There are probably more if you care to look.

Default The White Horse Inn, Broughton - LYON family.

    Hi Trish

Thanks for all your info. Yes I have managed to get that info. from IGI - I've actually managed to track down my relatives, who lived in Stanwick - back to a Samuel Lyon, christened in Stanwick 1760. But have come to a grinding halt there!!

I have traced others from the Kettering area before this date, but cannot def. connect them.

Once again thanks for your time - any ideas where I might get any old photos or The White Horse?

    Regards, David
