The birth registration was in Jul/Sep 1938, the death certificate gives date of birth as 27th July 1937. The year could and is likely to be a mistake on behalf of the informant who registered the death. The month of July is likely to be correct for a birth registration in Jul/Sep quarter. What will probably be of more use is a possible address and the name of the person who registered the death. Hopefully a family member.

Certificates for Helena Wickham.

Thanks Jeremy. I am fairly certain that Helena M Wickham is the child of Mark F H and Margaret as I found the birth record in the index on the Ancestry website. The Mother's name was given as Porteous, Margaret's maiden name.
You may be able to answer a couple of questions for me.
1. Will I be able to get Helena Marion Wickham's Death Certificate without full details. i.e. the date of death, etc.,
2. I used to be able to look at the 1837 to 1983 indices on Ancestry for free. It appears to me know that this is a pay facility. Am I right or am I missing something ?
Regards
Elena

I don't wish to butt in on Jeremy, but yes you are correct!

Directories
Hi Elena,
You could also try looking in the local directories such as Kelly's. They give an alphabetical listing of the "head of the household" and at which address they were living for any given year.

Thanks Jan. I've tried that tack without success. Couldn't find Mark (I have come to conclusion that he may have been a bit of a flybynight). Couldn't find anything out about John Green although he must have been someone important as he was listed in the 1938 Court Directory, lived in a very expensive part of Westminster and had Mark as a chef. I would love to know about John Green. Fascinating isn't it ?

Thanks again Jeremy. Just noticed the error in my message 'now with a k' (I hate making typing errors). I was pretty tired when I typed the message.
I decided to apply for Helena's birth certificate to make sure that the 'M' stood for Marion. I await the certificate with eager anticipation.
You know, I really love this subject. There is nothing like finding out information is there ?

Elena

Hello Glenys
Do you mean that I am correct in my assumption in my question 2 to Jeremy ? It is annoying as I used to spend many happy hours trawling through the free indices, sad person that I am.
Regards,
Elena
