William GUISE, tailor,civil war era

Re: William GUISE, b. 1630c. Worcester, Tailor.

There was a William GUISE who was responsible for passing information to Cromwell during the battle of Worcester, August 1651.

As a result he (William) "was hanged from the sign of the Golden Cross Inn along Broad Street...".

"...Cromwell rewarded his widow with the sum of $200, a large sum at the time, with an annuity of the same amount".

Trying to further identify William his widow/family. Would there be records as to the trial which might provide further family information? Or are there any other sources that are available to someone in order to trace William's line...

Was he admitted as a Freeman of Worcester to be able to work/trade there? It might be worth checking with Worcestershire RO to see if any such records exist.

Have you tried searfching www.a2a.org.uk to see if there are any Guise entries recorded in Worcestershire?

Did he leave a will? Are there any Guise wills in Worcestershire - specifically look for any which refer to 'my son William'
