I am seeking information about the family STANTON who owned or rented the Horsecroft farm near Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. The farm originally belonged to the Culley aristocracy but was then sold off. Horsecroft is now a hamlet and in the 1960's was sub divided for a housing estate. My relatives the Stantons would have had a farm there approx 1920. The STANTON family were from London. There was a son Edward born approx. 1900. Any information regarding Horsecroft would be greatly appreciated. Or any advice on how to research titles of owners of the farm since the Culley family.

Hi there,
I thought I'd have a quick look to see if you'd had a reply yet. It would've been better on the Suffolk Forum I think, i.e more people looking, but never mind.
The Access to Archives site, www.a2a.org.uk/ is another one you'll end up using all the time for all sorts of official records and paperwork. I just typed 'Horsecroft' into the keyword search. There were 71 hits, but amongst them, this;
Suffolk Record Office, Bury St Edmunds branch. Records of William H Brown (formerly Rutters) estate agents, Bury St Edmunds.
Volume of sale particulars:
FILE- Horsecroft Farm, arable, pasture and woodland, Horringer, Nowton and Hardwick- ref. HE 503/3/55- Dec 1925
If you follow the links, you'll find other references to Horsecroft, Suffolk; but this one seems the most relevant.

Thanks for that invaluable info. Now I have the Stanton tree on the move I think this problem may eventually resolve itself. I will follow up on your lead for sure. The Warren link would have brought them back to Bury for a country retreat from London I would think.
Also if all else fails I may be able to do some thorough searching in Bury when I go next year.
Did you notice that the info from Wirral now gives me a name for Harry's mother? Hannah. Wow, how do I get the housework done when this is all happening? Have back ,neck and arm strain sitting at this computor for days but it sure is worth it!
This forum is amazing! I am about to subscribe as I am getting a bit frustrated with lack of complete info on the freebie. Oops, there goes my budget!
Thanks again!

Hi Marj,
I know what you mean re housework but I have to get my skates on today, I 've got a houseful of grandchildren arriving tomorrow!
You'll be thrilled about this though, I was googling this morning and came up with www.horsecroft.force9.co.uk/ There is a map of the farm, info and PHOTOS!!!! Scroll right down to the bottom of their homepage.

Horsecroft.
Thanks, I have seen this site before and actually sent them an email asking for some information but never received a reply. The web site is pretty old but I am now considering writing to them or at least the current owners of the farm. This site is very useful though as it gives me a lot of info about the history of the farm.
I really think I owe you big time!!
I still think I can get some info from the achives lead you gave me. So much to do and so little time!! My husband only sees me at meal time! My daughter is as fanatical about all this as me so she is thinking of taking a week off work and helping me. At the moment all my information is in a massively HIGH pile!
Enjoy the granchildren - so far my children have not obliged. I am getting very impatient. They need to add a few more branches to the family tree!
regards
Marj.
