I have been researching my familytree for about 4 years and have done very well mainly due to using Genes re-united, ancestry, findmypast, 1901 census, familysearch.org and the BMD sites. I have made contact with many distant relatives the latest being a chap the same age as me whose grandfather was my grandfathers brother. He has sent me pictures of them both that I have never seen before. I discovered that my maternal links Phillips, Robinson, Lloyd, Heginbottom, Marsh and Ormsby are in Ireland and Yorkshire which came as a surprise as I am originally from Manchester now living in Yorkshire! Tracing the Birchall, Sant, Postles, Bibby and Thorley family tree when most were born in Cheshire has been easy.......... Except for my Paternal grandmother Winifred May Shepherd who apparently was a foundling and does not identify a father on her marriage cert. Hope that the 1911 census may help with that mystery as she would have been 12/13 years old then. The site looks interesting and I am glad to have found it-have posted some unwanted certs already. Hope I can help others sometime!|

Do any of your Thorleys come from the area of Marton, near Congleton? I have an ancestor John Thorley, born around 1817.

Welcome lindad. I have just received a wake-up call and visited the site for the first time since October. I have reched the parish records stage for most of my research. I have done a lot of transcribing over the past ten years. It is now time to put all parish records on the internet but I fear that commercialism may get in the way of this being done without cost to the individual researcher. The job needs central co-ordination from an objective organisation.
