On the 1841 census for St.Stephens, Launceston, Cornwall, I find William MAUNDER age 30, his wife Maria age 25, son John age 2, and son William age 6 months.
Yet on son John's birth certificate from St. Neot in 1839 it gives the father as John and the mother as Mary Ann.
Could this be one and the same person or a genuine mistake by the enumerator or the registrar.

Thanks for that Bo Peep, I think Maria must be the correct one as the birth certificate was "signed" by a X by John Maunder so I suppose the registrar wrote it as he heard it, as must the enumerator.

Thanks Bo Peep, very interesting. Could you give me the names of these other children ?
There must be a joke in here somewhere with a Dinner and a Mutton.
