John Hawker family 1700s

Can anyone identify this Hawker family for me?

John Hawker had two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth.

Mary Hawker married John David Ziegel at St.Thomas the Apostle, Exeter on 3 January 1746. They had two daughters, Mary who married Rev.Henry Mugg of Chudleigh, and Elizabeth who married Nicholas Phene of London, an Upholsterer. Mary (Hawker) Ziegel died in Chudleigh in 1811.

Elizabeth Hawker married Rev. Nicholas Cross at Ottery St.Mary on 18 March 1757. They settled in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and Elizabeth died there in 1804.

John Hawker died in Trowbridge, Wilts. in 1780, but was not from there. He was described as a Gentleman, and left over £6000 in his will, shared between the families of his two daughters. From the information given above, I believe he was from Devon.

As a result of the information you have given me I have established that the John Hawker of Trowbridge who is in my family tree was a Grocer/Linen Draper from Exeter who was the son of James Hawker of Luppitt and married a Mary Brinley. His sister was the Elizabeth Hawker who married Nicholas Munkley in 1718 and following his death in 1730 she married John Duntze in 1733. When Elizabeth Duntze died in 1777 she left legacies to her brother John Hawker and to her nieces Mrs Ziegel and Mrs Cross who were John Hawker's children. So her Will is a link between James Hawker of Luppitt and John Hawker of Trowbridge.

There was another John Hawker in Exeter at the time who was married to May Rowe and was a Haberdasher and it is his details which I included in my previous note.

The information you gave me has enabled me to make some significant changes to my tree and has opened up a whole new field for research.

In particular the identity of James Hawkers wife Susanna remains a mystery and I would welcome any information on this.
