    Question Moffatt/Moffat

I am trying to trace a Robert Moffatt/Moffat and is wife Jane Turnbull. According to LDS IGI's they were married in Kirkpatrick Fleming in 1818 but according to Scotland's People there is no record of this marriage

John and Jane had moved to Kirklinton in Cumberland by the 1841 census. Robert would have been born around 1786 and Jane 1791.

The spelling of the surname seems to have gained an extra "T" over the generations, but has also been spelt in a number of ways throughout the census records including Moffitt and Moffat.

Regarding IGI event dates you found for ROBERT MOFFATT, JANE TURNBULL and HELEN MOFFATT:
These entries are "Family group records submitted by a member of the LDS Church". So they are "guesstimations" by a family researcher or someone cherry-picking names and dates for the LDS database.
If there is a Batch Number such as C110562 or M110564, it means the entry is from the Old Parish Registers (Batch Numbers are how the LDS organised information from the OPRs).
A useful site is Hugh Wallis' IGI Batch Numbers - British Isles and North America

Once again very helpful, I do use Hugh Wallis' site regularly as I have come across a number of errors with user submitted information. There is no mention of them in Kirkpatrick Fleming and the 1841 census for Cumberland only says they were born in Scotland. I have not been able to find a marriage record for them in England or Scotland as yet but will keep looking.

Chances of finding marriage are vanishingly dim to non-existent! I'd put them on the back burner and concentrate on other things

The problem is I can't get any further back, as I don't know their parents details or their birth years, only approximation and without a county of birth I am stuck. I really would like to try and trace this line back further if I can as it is my mother's family name and she was led to believe that the family were sheep rustler's and would like to find out if this is true.

Had a quick look in the book "The Moffats" by Francis Moffat of that Ilk: and couldn't see any mention of a Robert Moffat marrying a Jane Turnbull.
Have you looked in the Irregular Marriages?? ( mostly Gretna Green!)
