Yet Another Newbie!

Hello all! I read about this forum in this week's "Computer Active" which has a great article giving advice on building family trees, with some very useful links. I am so glad I followed it up. I know I'm going to enjoy it here!

I am particularly interested in the names Roake and Roe in Hampshire, Surrey. and Northamptonshire, particulary Prior to 1840s and after 1911.

So you are almost a neighbour then?
I only moved here to Netley Abbey 5 years ago, from Aldershot, so I'm a Newby hereat home too though I have made many friends since moving here. Netley is so friendly and I live only 2 mins from The Solent. I especially like Southampton for the lovely parks and gardens in the City. the
History and sometimes even the shopping!

As Southampton was originally the County town,I thought I might be able to
find some history of my family in the reference library but seems everything is in Winchester now. Never mind,I am really enjoying myself researching here on the internet. So glad I found these Forums.

Yes, I know Bently! It's a pretty little village near Alton isn't it?
I was born and bred in Basingstoke which isn't too far from there, (or Southamton!)

Glad you're enjoying yourself in the South. I expect you've found that the Reference Library does have quite a lot of general information about Hampshire and its villages, but it has concentrated on the City and also on Maritime history.

I'm not far away; just outside Bitterne. Apart from a couple of years in Wales for my studies I've spent all my life in Southampton, but I've got ancestors from all over the country.

I hope you enjoy the forums and exchanging information with everyone.
