Bovey Pottery, Wemyss, Elton Pottery and Thomas Mayer are all pottery manufacturers from the period of 1930 to the late 1950's that made pottery for a Jan Plichta, b. 1894 in Bela, Czechoslovakia. Jan went to London in the early 1920's and set up business as an exporter and wholeshaler of glass and pottery.
The items are marked "Plichta", "Plichta London England", or "Plichta London Made in England" applied with a stamp under the glase. Items consist of small animals with various types of flowers, clover and thistles painted on the animal's back. Also a series of steins decorated with Pub Signs. A variety of tea sets, jam jars, large breakfast coffee cups, etc.
If there are any pottery experts out there, I would be interested in finding some of Jan's wares, especially, "Plichta's Pigs" and the "Pub Sign" steins. Please contact me directly if you have and would like to sell some of Jan's wares.
Jan was naturalized a British subject in 1932.
Thanks, Plichta

I read your other message about Jan last night. I have a friend who is into antiques and china is his main interest. I have been to a few antique fairs with him so I know a little about antiques. I have not heard of Jan but I have heard of Wemyss. I will ask my friend if he knows about Jan.
There are some Plichta pigs and other animals for sale on ebay. Have you tried the American ebay site?

There is a new pottery forum called "Let's talk about pottery" where someone might know about Jan.

Jan Plichta and Wemyss Pottery
Thank you for the information. I have purchased several of "Plichta's Pigs" and I watch ebay in the US for them. I have not searched ebay so I guess I need to start doing that.
I will also Czech out the new pottery site you mentioned. Thanks for the referral.
Any specific information about Jan Plichta and/or his wife Maria would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Plichta

We've not found anything about him as yet on the Pottery Forum but we are still looking. If anyone has a pottery interest the forum is here.

Jan and Maria Plichta
Is this the same family? It's a case for a claim for reparation from WW2, from the Claims Resolution Tribunal re Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation, and is dated 31 March, 2005. The link is to a PDF format file download... www.

Jan and Maria Plichta #2
No. This is not the same family. Jan and Maria/Marie are very popular names even in the Plichta family. In the case you found, Jan is the son of Maria. I am familiar with this claim and it is another family.
In my original post Jan and Marie Plichta are husband and wife. I have a very solid history of the family living in London from 1923 thru Jan's death on August 27, 1968 in Hove, East Sussex Co., England and even a business trip that they made to the United States from April 23, 1946 thru June 6, 1946.
I continue to look for information about Jan and Marie Plichta in London between 1923 and 1968.
Thanks,
Frank Plichta

I know this was posted some time ago but just wanted to let you know I have one of the Plichta Inn Signs tankards/steins for "The Adam & Eve" if you are interested in purchasing it. It has no chips or cracks but is heavily crazed and stained. The stamp on the base is PLICHTA LONDON ENGLAND. I am happy to send you photos if you want to reply to my email address: sueleeves AT yahoo DOT co DOT uk Best wishes. Sue

Hello Sue - welcome to Brit-Gen,
Unfortunately, Plichta has not visited the forum for a couple of years and so may not see your message. However, as they are still a member, if you click on their user-name, a drop-down menu will appear. One of the options is to send them an email.
