I do think you have a point about reluctance to use computers on the part of a lot of researchers! For some reason, at the time I switched to Internet only, which was over five years ago, well over 50% of my Society's membership at the time did not have computers or had any idea how to use one!
Some of them acted as if I was asking them to participate in some kind of Black Magic when I suggested they learn how to use the 'net. One even got irate when I gave them a free email address and told them how to access the Society's board, and insisted I remove it as "I have no intention in ever becoming involved in the Internet which I disapprove of!"!!!
I think a lot of people still like the social and active aspect of research, meeting fellow members and travelling to libraries etc. for hands on research!
In the intervening years I have had an influx of new, computer-literate, members and have seen a lot of the original members who had no idea how to use computers join the Internet site (for free I hasten to add!)
I think the old school will eventually begin to use computers more, but there are stil lots of people out there who will prefer to use the old methods!
