This is a photo (I believe) of my great grandmother who was born in 1901. She looks quite young on the photo so I'd guess it was taken sometime around WWI. It looks to have been taken in a studio but what is she wearing? Is it some sort of uniform? If so, what for/where from?

Hi, I have just taken a look, did your great grandmother work in a munitions factory during the Great War at all? because it could be a uniform of sorts to work in one of those places. Women still didnt routinely wear trousers, so i am only guessing. Let me know how you get on lol

Yes, WWI munitions worker seems likely.
There's a picture showing a group of women in similar uniforms in a munitions factory at Gretna in 1915 at https://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/r...g=2&imagepos=1

Thanks I don't know for if she worked in a munitions factory but she was apparently a mill worker at one point so it's very plausible. I'll see if I can find out more somewhere or perhaps just ask around older family members.
