Hi all,
Am desperately trying to find out about one John Adams. He was born app.1901, lived at Wapping, and is said to have been a police inspector in the London Docklands area.
John had a wife whom he referred to as 'Mary Shelley', a marriage which I can find no record of.
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you been through the GRO indexes and extracted the details of all the children and do you have the birth certificate of at least the main one you're interested in?
The birth of the first child gives you a date to search around for a marriage - plus or minus a few years initially, extending the search as necessary.
Metropolitan Police records are at the National Archives. See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/c...sLeafletID=104. Since you're "desperate", you'll be wanting to look there - but probably not until you've laid the groundwork with the appropriate BMD certificates.
