Default hotwells / dickason / schools

Hi I have a relative living in dowry square hotwells in the 1880s. there are a couple of queries does anyone know what the area was like in the 1880s the house in question is quite a large georgian townhouse. Not at all what I would expect for someone of his class. It is quite possible the house was split up into smaller lodgings which I guess is likely.

Secondly one line I have yet to research for any of my 'folk' is the details around the school records. Does anyone have any clues as to how I would investigate my relatives school / education records. I assume it is a case of working out what were the likely schools in the area, and I guess the local records office will have the information?

    Has anyone tried this?

    thank you Zoe
the name I am looking into is dickason.
