I am looking to find a birth for MARY ANN ILAND who married JAMES WATSON CAMPBELL 3/10/1874 Gympie QLD Australia and died in Brisbane 18/7/1936.
She had 7 children all of whom I have been able to find so it is only Mary and her parents and siblings that I am trying to find at this time. I know she had one sister named Margaret as she was the grandmother of a friend. Unfortunately my friend knows nothing about her family and is hoping I will be able to get some information for her as well.
Hopeing you can help me discover this side of my Campbell family.
Thank you
Deirdre

So what time span are we looking at? and where? any ideas.
You do not mention how old she was when she died. What parents were given on her death?

Hi ChristineR Back again
We have just taken my 4 year old granddaughter back to her father after a weeks stay and can now think again. Love to see her arrive Love to see her go. lol.
About MARY ANN ILAND going back through my paperwork I find I have little but the marriage date and death date. The information of death came from a book at the Gold Coast Family History Society listed under Gympie Two Mile Cemetery and a lady in Gympie went to the grave site and sent me the tomb stone inscriptions which only show the death dates. I can guess on the norm of the time she was 19 or 20 when she married but that is wild at best, and I think she was born in Gympie if not it was Brisbane.
I haven't been able to get to Brisbane with time to spare to go into the city to get marriage or death certificates. Been spending all our time at P A Hospital as my husband had a suspected stroke - CT scan showed no stroke but we are back again on Monday for more tests to find out what it was.
I will get there asap when all this drama finishes but until then I was hopeing I might luck out with B-G. So C1854 at a guess.
Hope you can help........Deirdre

Hi Deirdre,
Are you sure she was born in QLD?
The Digger index records a possibility for Margaret as:
Illand Margaret
Birth
Father Richard
Mother Mary Ann MacDonald
26 Mar 1867
Ref 1867/002823
There is also
Iland Julia
Birth
Father Richard
Mother Mary Ann MacDonald
29 Mar 1870
Ref 1870/001942
however I can find nothing else.
Do you know the parents?

I doubt if she was born Queensland, the name doesn't appear until late in the cd, not long before she married (transcribed in the index as SLAND)
Deidre, sorry to hear about your hubby, that would be an awful scare, hope everything turns out okay. I know you aren't allowed to use a credit card on the net, but you ARE able to download and print an application form and send off by snail mail for a certificate (money order or chq and a photocopy of your licence for identification) Would work out cheaper than a trip to Brisbane? The bonus is that you would also get information about the groom too.
You really cannot proceed any further back without a guide - we can pluck a few Mary Ann Iland girls out for you, from England, but you are not going to know which is yours! so there isn't any point. She could have been born interstate.

Qld Marriage
James Watson CAMPBELL
Mary Ann SLAND
3-10-1874
Ref Number: 1874/000482
When you fill out the form, make sure you also put SLAND, or at least put it in brackets after ILAND - else they may think it is the wrong one. They also ask where the marriage took place, if you do not know for sure, I would think it is best not to put anything apart from Queensland.

Hi guys,
Have spoken to my mum who lives in Brisbane she is going into 110 George St Registry next week and she is going to get the marrage certificate for me. Ah! there is light at the end of the tunnel after all. I may even keep some hair....lol.

Doug, Yes the parents are Richard Iland and Mary Ann McDonald
Richard's parents are Elijah Iland & Mary Ann McDonald (it's confusing)
his brother Elijah married Elizabeth Dreiss. Melissa found these for me along with some children but no Mary Ann Iland. Will just have to wait for certificate and see what that shows up.
