Hi All
Can anyone give me advice on how to find any details of my ancestors Boer war history.
My great Grandfather John Owens served in India and South Africa. before ww1 he was on the reserve list and called up at the start of the war. He served with the 1st Btn of the East Lancashire regiment and his number was 7021. John was killed at Ypres in 1915. would he have been with this regt during the Boer War? and would his service number have stayed the same?
Johns ww1 records did not survive.
Also looking for my great uncle John Shirley who was with the Kings Liverpool regt during ww1. he enlisted on 15 October 1914 as No 12498 in 12 KLR. He was drafted to France on 24 July 1915 and was discharged from the Army on 21 August 1917 (no longer fit for service). John was 41 years 11 months old at discharge. He was awarded three medals (1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medals) and a Silver War Badge uniquely stamped 246617. again would he have served with this regt during ww1?
both men came from Liverpool.
many thanks
Ant.

part 2.....
This doesn't quite make sense, do you mean he was in the Liverpool Regt in WW1 and wonder if he was in the same regiment in the South African (Boer) War?
