I am looking for information on BRIERLEY SMITH born in Gympie Queensland c1909 to EDMUND BRIERLY SMITH and FLORENCE BEATRICE nee CAMPBELL.
Edmund was born Dec 1876 Wellingborough Northamptonshire England. Florence was born 18/9/1876 in Gympie Australia they were married 20/6/1906 she died while BRIERLEY was a baby and he was raised by his grandparents JAMES WATSON CAMPBELL and MARY ANN nee ILAND. The Campbells moved to Brisbane in 1920/21. They lived at Bowen Hills Brisbane. Don't suppose that census is available. Any help here would be appreciated.

Hi Deidre,
I have just tried searching on the National Library archives for a Brierley Smith, on the chance he may have served in the forces, but no luck, there are people with the name there but all from Victoria... I'll keep thinking see if I have any other ideas. I was under the impression Australian govmt. destroys all census records??? So I don't know about that, sorry.
Regards,
Bridget.

Hi Bridget
Thanks for your interest in my problem relie. You had more luck in naa than I did I couldn't raise a record for the name. There is every likelyhood that he could have moved interstate in his adult years the grandparents died 1925 and 1936. The war years were 1939 on in Australia so there is a 3 year gap there and he could have moved to Victoria I suppose. Worth a check out.
Thank you again
Deirdre

Hi Deidre,
no worries mate happy to give it a go.
Just checked in Digger Victorian Deaths to 1985, no Brierley Smith's there. Maybe NSW? I'll have a look.
Cheers,
Bridget.

No luck in NSW under deaths to 1975 for me... hrm!! Tricky fella!
There is a marriage in NSW, 1948 for an Alan Brierley Smith to a Clare Carmel Cook 8026/1948, Sydney. But if he was born in 1909-ish that's a bit old isn't it..
I'll keep thinking...

Thanks mate glad to have you have a go.
Have been chasing the men in this family up hill and down dale to no avail.
I feel that anytime my mind will run off the rail.
Any thing you find will put what I have found in the pail.
So your efforts I heartily regale.
Weak effort but fun.
Thanks Bridget.

Unless it is a second marriage. Clutching at straws here!

His Mum and Dad were married 1906 so he could be born any time from 1907 to 1909. This doesn't change a hole lot in the birth stakes.

off the track a little
Bridget was looking at your profile (stickybeak) what is your knight connection. I haven't started on my hubbies side yet but his grandmother on his mum's side was a Knight born in Brisbane no dates yet. She married a Charles Hurman. She came from a big family I think, as I said haven't got past much more than that yet.

Deidre, I tried googling Brierley Smith and found a few interesting links. Have you read these before?
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.c...645932&id=I116
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read...-07/1151830147
Could it be the same person, Brierley's father?

Yes Bridget I came across another lady researching the same Smiths and she had info for 2 more generations back...but still no Brierley. I emailed Kerry from the link so will see what comes of that. It goes, Samuel and Mary, Edmund B and Katherine (Karren's great grandparents), Edmund Brierley and Florence Beatrice (my grandfathers sister) Brierley's mum and dad. Edmund B had a younger brother and sister. So we will see what happens.
