    Smile Cotterell / ' Fish Inn '

Francis Cotterell born ? married Elizabeth Shorey ? date / where. Their
youngest son Samuel Paul born 1858, died 1925, married Frances Ellen
Stanley 1884 ? where. They lived at ' The Fish Inn ' near the Broadway
Tower, children; Mary, Frederick, Gertrude Winifred Agatha [my nan] ,
Walter and Edith. There might have been one or two others. Gertrude went
on to marry my grandfather Francis Edward Pethrick against family wishes
in 1884 not sure if they married in Evesham or Broadway. Does anyone
have any information that would help me. Thanks for reading my post/

    Default Francis COTTERELL

    Marion,

According to FreeBMD, Francis COTTRILL married in the March qtr 1847 at Evesham registration district, vol 18, page 373 - one of the other names on the page was Elizth SHOREY.

According to the 1881 census of Broadway (RG11/2927, folio 31, page 10), Francis & Elizabeth were living at Colletts Field with son Samuel - next door was a Thomas SHOREY, aged 52 and family - maybe a brother of Elizabeth?? You can look this up for yourself on the LDS Family Search site.

In the 1871 census (RG10/3061, folio 33, page 20), Francis & Elizabeth are living at Back Ends, Broadway with children John, Frank, William & Samuel.

In the 1861 census of Broadway (RG9/2103, folio 37, page 29), Francis & Elizabeth are at Back Ends with children John, Ellen, Frank, William & Samuel Paul.

In the 1851 census of Broadway (HO107/2044, folio 479, page 16), they are living at ? Cottages with children John & Ellen.

I think I have found Elizabeth in the 1841 census of Broadway (HO107/1204/10, folio 55, page 16) mistranscribed as THONEY on Ancestry:

    Saluburous? Cottage

Sammuell SHOREY 38 Ag Lab Born in county no
    Ann do 38 yes
    Elizabeth do 16 yes
    Thomas do 14 yes
    William do 12 yes
    Samuell do 8 yes
    John do 5 yes
    Ann do 4 yes

However, at the moment I am not having much luck with finding Francis using Ancestry's search index, so will check through the whole of Broadway for you to see if he is there. If you send off for the marriage certificate it will at least give you their fathers names which should confirm if the Elizabeth above is correct. Hope this helps.

    Default Francis COTTERELL

    Marion,

I think I have found Francis on the 1841 in Broadway so don't know what he is transcribed as in the Ancestry index!!

    HO107/1204/10, folio 51, pages 7/8
    High Street

Francis COTTRILL 61 Weaver Born in county yes
    Sarah do 57 no
Charles do 23 Ag Lab yes
    Francis do 21 do yes
    William do 16 Baker yes

Looked for Samuel Paul's wedding and found it, again on FreeBMD, in December qtr 1883 at Evesham registration district vol 6c, page 619, one of the other names being Frances Ellen STANLEY.

In the 1891 census of Willersey, Gloucestershire (RG12/2337, folio 54, page 2), Samuel & Frances were at the Fish Inn with children Frank aged 6, Mildred A aged 5, Alice Elizth aged 3, Mary Frances aged 1 and Frederick aged 1 month, all children born in Willersey and Frances Ellen born in Snowshill. In the 1901 census of Willersey (RG13/2790, folio 59, page 1) they are still at the Fish Inn with the additional children Gertrude aged 8, Ethel aged 4 and Albert aged 1, but no Frederick.

    Hope this helps.
